Elden Kom / The Fire Came solo show at Galleri Slätten in Malmö, 2021 and at Galleri Detroit in Stockholm, Sweden, 2019
Elden Kom / The Fire Came builds on myths around a diner, lounge and bowling alley called The Red Mill. This diner was owned by Theselius’ husband's great grandparents in Detroit, Michigan through the 1950s and 60s. The Red Mill burned down twice under shadowy circumstances. Through photographs and postcards of The Red Mill, collected by her husband’s family and found online, Theselius has recreated images and objects inspired by the diner as the fire begins. In a twist of the narrative, Theselius has inserted her own infant son into the chronicle of The Red Mill by construing his mischievous and spirited nature derives from his past life as the cause of the fires. This creates a surrealistic installation that hopes to quell the artists fears of her son come pyromaniac from striking again.
